GPS Mapping Systems.
May 24, 2007
There are so many GPS tracking system mapping options out there. Before you just walk into a store and pick one up do your homework first. You need to determine all of your options first. One thing to consider is the type of mapping that the unit offers you. You will see that some options may not suite your needs but others may be perfectly suited to your specific needs. Since all GPS tracking systems work with the use of satellites, there is no doubt that you will find benefit from any one of the several mapping options out there that you can select from.
Some units have multiple uses while others are specialized in only one use. Therefore, you have to determine what you specifically need a GPS System for and then choose the appropriate one for your needs. Here are some things that you should consider:
• Street maps: These are ideal for a longer journey or for navigating through a city. In high density areas (such as an urban area), you will want to look for WAAS reception as this will provide you with more detail. Even better is the SiRF Star III Chip Set which allows you to get even better accuracy in denser areas.
• Nautical Maps: A great way for you to use nautical maps on the high seas or the navigating the neighborhood stream in your rubber dingy. You have the ability to locate that little cove where all the fish are hiding and of course to know exactly where you’re going at all times. These handy units will provide you with a great amount of sight into areas that are not charted. Some will even download up to the minute details for your use.
• Topographical Maps: Wouldn’t you like to know exactly where the hills and bumps are in the road before you even get there?
• Aeronautical Maps: You will probably thank your lucky stars that you invested in a GPS unit should you happen to lose your way while flying your little Cessna. These babies will tell you, with unbelievable accuracy, exactly where you are and where you’re heading.
These various mapping options are meant to provide you with as much detail as possible. Not all the maps on offer are of the highest quality though. If you want a detailed, high quality product, consider purchasing a specialized mapping system. If you just want an overall high quality product, then a system with multiple uses is perfect for your needs.
